Efficacy Data and HPV Vaccination Studies

To the Editor: In her Editorial, Dr Haug1 cautioned that the benefits of HPV vaccination are unclear because “a woman most likely will not develop cancer if she is regularly screened.” Indeed, while cervical cancer is the second most common malignancy of women worldwide, only 12 800 cases of carcinoma are diagnosed annually in the United States, causing approximately 4600 deaths.2
