Heritable Disease and Sperm Donation—Reply

JAMA. 2010;303(7):617-619. doi:10.1001/jama.2010.125

In Reply: Drs Bream and Lott acknowledge the value to some constituencies of greater access to donor-related genetic information via a national registry but caution that our advocacy for such access harbors the unintended consequence of replicating the discriminatory objectives of the US eugenics movement. In addition, they link our call for enhanced genetic screening to a slippery slope, which would ensnare natural conception in an intrusive web of government-mandated preconception screening protocols.
