Use of Statins and Gallstone Risk

To the Editor: In the study by Dr Bodmer and colleagues,1 current statin use was associated with a 22% lower odds of cholecystectomy, but the odds for past statin users was increased by 19%. Although the analysis was adjusted for many potential confounders affecting the risk of gallstone development, the time from stone formation to surgery was unknown and dietary information was unavailable.
