Adjuvant Chemotherapy Use Among Older Patients With Stage III Colon Cancer—Reply

JAMA. 2010;303(23):2353-2354. doi:10.1001/jama.2010.776

In Reply: Drs Moore and Gibbs question whether older patients with stage III colon cancer should receive adjuvant chemotherapy containing oxaliplatin. They also wonder whether the low rates of treatment we observed in older patients represent wise clinical judgment rather than undertreatment. We did not suggest that oxaliplatin is appropriate for older patients, that shortened-duration chemotherapy is ineffective, or that low treatment rates are inappropriate. But the results of our study do call these practices into question.
