Regulation for e-Cigarettes

JAMA. 2010;304(16):1777. doi:10.1001/jama.2010.1491

In September, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent letters to 5 manufacturers of electronic cigarettes warning the companies that they are illegally marketing their products (http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/EnforcementActions/WarningLetters/2010/default.htm).

Electronic cigarettes deliver nicotine, other drugs, or flavorings to users in vapor form. Although these products have been marketed by the 5 companies as smoking cessation aids, they have not been approved by the FDA for such clinical use.
