Multidisciplinary Approaches to Biomedical Research—Reply

JAMA. 2010;304(20):2243-2244. doi:10.1001/jama.2010.1704

In Reply: We agree with Dr Perzynski that the full potential of the biomedical research enterprise can be realized only with a multidisciplinary approach to investigation that includes the behavioral and social sciences. These disciplines bring powerful and needed perspectives to the discovery process and expand the horizons of current knowledge. We concur that fluency across the boundaries of many disciplines is needed to ensure a healthy research enterprise and hope that all those working in these fields would add their voices to a call for a new policy framework.
