ATTENDEES at the International Alcohol Policy Conference XI heard a clear message from speakers: physicians in clinical settings may be missing "teachable moments" that could dramatically reduce their patients' alcohol consumption.
Presenters at the Chicago, Ill, meeting, held in May and sponsored by the American Medical Association (AMA), also demonstrated reductions in alcohol abuse through a variety of means, including reductions in advertisements, beer keg registration to reduce underage drinking, and zoning changes to reduce the concentration of bars and restaurants in certain, often minority, neighborhoods.
