Antimicrobial Drugs May Be Overprescribed to Medicaid Patients

JAMA. 2014;311(23):2373. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.6269

Using data from the 2007 Medicaid Analytic Extract files for patients aged 21 years or older from 40 states who were diagnosed during a physician visit with an acute respiratory infection, the researchers examined records to determine which patients received an antimicrobial drug prescription and filled it within 4 days of the visit.
