Recognizing the toll that HIV and AIDS take on young people, organizers of this year's World AIDS Day observance have chosen a theme encouraging them to "Be a Force for Change."

This year's event on December 1 will be the 11th annual World AIDS Day. According to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the American Association for World Health (AAWH), five young people worldwide are infected with HIV every minute. Last year, 590000 children around the world became HIV infected, most through maternal transmission.
