In September 1997, Bruce Vladeck, PhD, stepped down from
his post as Administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration
after more than 4 years in office. Prior to that position, he served 10
years as president of the United Hospital Fund of New York, as a member
of the faculty of Columbia University, and, from 1979 through 1982, as
Assistant Commissioner for Health Planning and Resources Development of
the New Jersey State Department of Health. He currently serves as a
professor of health policy at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and as
senior vice president of Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.
