"In the meantime, you wait,"
the doctor said.
And waiting is such mean time.
One or two fishermen, some deer hunters
are content to watch the sky redden,
the frost-stung leaves loosen
and tick down through branch tines.
But most of us, no.
Most of us say bring it on,
the bite, the big rack,
the animal with its desire
to get on with it,
whatever it is.
