If you ask a patient where to find God in the hospital, you will likely be met with one of several responses. Many will look at you with teary faces, professing that He remains ever present at the bedside. An equal share will roll their eyes and point to their fate as evidence of His nonexistence. Others will never answer, as if contented by their indifference. Such an intrusive question is not typically a part of my history gathering, but having recently graduated from medical school, I have learned how frequently the topic naturally arises.
