It is the last afternoon of the work week. The clinic nurse greets me
with "TGIF, Dr Singer!" I laugh agreeably and enter room one. A middle-aged
woman with diabetes complains of a swollen bunion on her right foot. I refer
her to a podiatrist and allay her concerns about taking occasional Tylenol.
I wish her a good afternoon.
As I move on to room two, I notice the shining sun through the hall
A younger man with recurrent lymphoma is coughing up a storm. He feels
well overall, without fever, but he once tested positive for tuberculosis,
so I put a mask on his face and awkwardly explain the simple truth: I'm protecting
myself. Fortunately, a radiology technician is available on Fridays. I order
a pair of chest films.
