Republicans Report Disputes Between and Within Agencies Over HealthCare.gov

JAMA. 2014;312(18):1850. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.14524

A new report on the HealthCare.gov rollout found that Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) officials considered a “covert ops mission” to circumvent “incompetent” officials at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The CMS development team resisted greater involvement from senior HHS officials, refusing to share information with HHS officials they felt were not adequately invested in HealthCare.gov, Republican members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said in a September 17 report (http://1.usa.gov/1tsfTLe). Documents show hostile factions within CMS, particularly over website security, according to the report.
