Medicare Initiatives Seek to Improve Postacute Care

JAMA. 2014;312(20):2082. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.15841

Two initiatives launched by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services aim to improve the quality of postacute care.

The expansion and strengthening of the agency’s Five-Star Quality Rating System for nursing homes will provide more information concerning individual nursing homes’ quality (http://go.cms.gov/1g6HNL5). For example, additional quality measures that will be assessed in the rating system include antipsychotic medication use and rehospitalization and community discharge rates.
