a word mocked her
innocently Seussed her
bumpity bumped her
dim light ghostie
the word seemed so plain jane
too slumpy grumpy
for a sloe-eyed morning
how ridiculous—it couldn't be
rumpin' and jumpin'
glee of unleashed dogs
but no—there it was
stump clump
pirates on deck
crimp crump
wrinkle-mouth spinster
sump pump
sewer dump
the river before
the dry creekbed after
one morning
in the shower
fingers stumble
a word forms
its small weight
her tongue whispers
