In March 20011 Drs John and Judith Luce
discussed the management of dyspnea in the seriously ill, presenting 2 cases.
The first patient, Mrs D, was a 74-year-old white woman with dyspnea secondary
to emphysema. The second patient, Mrs I, was a 65-year-old white woman diagnosed
with limited-stage small-cell lung cancer and a central nervous system (CNS)
recurrence of her cancer.
