This collection of 18 short essays by physician-writers was commissioned to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Center for Literature, Medicine and the Health Care Professions, a collaborative program between Hiram (Ohio) College and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM). The activities of the center have expanded greatly since its inception and include seminars in bioethics, encouraging and judging poetry contests among medical students, and trying to show physicians and literary scholars that their two disciplines are not as disparate as is usually thought.
