Why do busy clinicians read reviews in "throwaway" (ie, free, advertising-supported) journals instead of in-depth reviews in peer-reviewed publications? The answer lies partly in the ease of reading and liberal use of illustrations, which allow readers to absorb information rapidly. The drawback is the superficial coverage often provided. Nature Reviews Cancer provides an alternative to this trade-off by offering up-to-date, comprehensive reviews in a format that is easy to read.
