The Lancet began in London, in 1823. The familiar
plain, newspaper-style cover is found in doctors' offices around the world
and continues to grace the shelves of most medical libraries. In recent years,
The Lancet Publishing Group has spun off subtitles: The
Lancet Oncology began in September 2000, followed by The Lancet Infectious Diseases in April 2001 and The Lancet Neurology in May 2002. Eye-catching covers and extensive
use of colored illustrations differentiate The Lancet's
offspring from their parent.
