Top Advisors Leave DHHS

JAMA. 2003;289(11):1368. doi:10.1001/jama.289.11.1368-a

Tommy Thompson, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), has lost two top advisors, Eve Slater, MD, assistant secretary for health, and Bobby Jindal, assistant secretary for planning and evaluation.

Both resigned in February to "pursue other opportunities" according to press releases. Thompson did not make himself available for comment.

Slater had been the top physician advisor in the DHHS, charged with overseeing the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other agencies.
