Michel Odent is a French obstetrician well-known for his extensive experience in observing, promoting, and fostering environments for natural childbirth. He introduced into the hospital homelike birth rooms, birthing pools, and practices designed to support women to labor and give birth undisturbed. His is an authoritative voice when it comes to nuanced observation of the natural processes of birth and the effects of attendants and environment on labor and childbirth. This has been called "the ecology of childbirth."
