I found this book to be engaging and inspiring. It follows in the tradition of oral historians Studs Terkel and John McPhee, who transmit the personal stories of people who are not necessarily famous but have interesting lives that are worth sharing with others. In preparing this book, Fitzhugh Mullan consulted both of these historians for techniques of interviewing and recording oral histories. Dr Mullan is an academic pediatrician and former Assistant Surgeon General in the US Public Health Service.
