The authors of this much acclaimed text have prepared a fourth edition,
5 years after the previous edition. The authors and the majority of the contributors
to the 23 chapters are teaching faculty from the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Each chapter has been revised or rewritten, and approximately 40 percent of
the content is new. There is one new chapter, "Craniofacial Syndromes." The
text length has been increased by approximately 130 pages. There are 2427
illustrations, 1725 in full color. These include photographs, radiographs,
sonographs, computed tomographic and magnetic resonance imaging scans, electrocardiograms,
diagrams, graphs, tables, and charts. The authors acknowledge helpful suggestions
from readers of previous editions and from hospital technical staff.
