President George W. Bush is expected to sign into law a bill banning so-called partial birth abortions, which passed the House in early June after earlier passage in the Senate.

Late-Term Abortion Ban

The bill outlaws operations in which the doctor "deliberately and intentionally vaginally delivers a living fetus . . . for the purpose of performing an overt act that the person knows will kill the partially delivered living fetus." Doctors violating the law would face fines and up to two years in prison.
