Geneva—A historic adoption of a treaty
to ban or restrict tobacco advertising and marketing was a memorable climax
to the 56th World Health Assembly, which met here in late May. This annual
gathering of delegates from the 191 member states of the United Nation's World
Health Organization (WHO), was also notable for the ending of the 5-year term
of WHO Director-General Gro Harlem Brundtland, who is succeeded by Jong-Wook
Lee, MD, MPH.
