Transforming Mental Health Care

The discovery of a protein that triggers inflammation during bacterial and viral infections solves a 40-year-old problem and presents a tempting target for drug development, write researchers in the July 20 online edition of Nature.

In a statement, team leader Bruce Beutler, MD, of the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif, characterized the protein, Trif, as standing at the crossroads of innate immunity in mice, and probably in humans.
