Asbestos Fund Challenged

JAMA. 2003;290(18):2396. doi:10.1001/jama.290.18.2396-a

Property and casualty insurers are challenging a Senate bill that would create a fund to compensate individuals exposed to asbestos if they met certain medical criteria.

The Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act of 2003 was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in July, but has not been scheduled for a full vote because of industry opposition, according to staff members of senators working on the bill.
