Neighborhoods and Health is the first book-length
account of the notion that social and physical characteristics of a neighborhood
affect the health of the individuals who live in it. Multiple health realities,
such as the increased prevalence of asthma in urban areas and elevated infant
mortality rates among low socioeconomic status populations, underscore the
need to understand a new facet of disease epidemiology. The book illustrates
the complex relationship between social settings and health, emphasizing both
methodological tools and thematic approaches.
