As December 1 marked the 15th World AIDS Day, a group of US physicians
hoping to promote "best practices" in prevention and treatment was mobilizing
an effort to influence how the Bush administration spends $2 billion in HIV/AIDS
emergency funding for Africa and Haiti. At the same time, US public health
specialists are opening the AIDS frontier in China, a country long closed
to international efforts to prevent and treat the disease.
