Researchers Explore Obesity-Cancer Link

Long known to be a contributing factor to a smorgasbord of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, obesity also appears to be an ingredient in the recipe for many types of cancer, suggests a growing body of evidence.

One third of all individuals in the United States—68 million—are obese (defined as having a body mass index of ≥30), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Over the last few decades, the number of obese individuals has increased steadily in the United States and around the industrialized world.
