Carolyn Plochmann has been painting and winning awards for more than 60 years. Born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1926, she was 15 when the Toledo Federation of Art Societies awarded her its First Prize. Later, she attended the University of Toledo, where she received a bachelor of arts in 1947, and Iowa State University, where she was awarded a master of fine arts degree in 1949. Eventually, she settled in Carbondale, where she is a member of the faculty at Southern Illinois University. Her many exhibits have toured the United States and her work is in the permanent fine arts collection of several American museums. Currently the exhibit "Carolyn Plochmann: Between Two Worlds" is touring the Midwest with stops in Chicago, Lockport, and Springfield, Ill, and the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
