Plan B Reversal?

JAMA. 2004;292(2):163. doi:10.1001/jama.292.2.163-d

A top Congressional Republican said that he is confident that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will reverse its decision and allow over-the-counter sales of emergency contraception later this year.

After meeting on June 2 with Steven Galson, PhD, acting director of FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Rep James Greenwood (R, Pa) told reporters that he had "read the riot act" to Galson.

"It was a horrible decision," Greenwood said of the FDA's May 6 letter to Barr Laboratories, Bala Cynwyd, Pa, rejecting the company's bid to sell its Plan B emergency contraceptive (levonorgestrel) over-the-counter.
