In Reply: The scoring of miscarriages in our
retrospective study was consistent with that used in the obstetric literature.1 There was a paucity of confounding risk factors because
all 3 major groups belong to the same extended family, live on the same small
island, consume the same diet, and have equal access to the same medical care.
Other risk factors such as parental age, parity, smoking habits, and the coexistence
of chronic diseases were assessed and controlled for in the statistical analysis.
