In this collection of brief autobiographical essays focused on the transition from medical school graduate to physician, internist Emily Transue shares her reflections on the process of becoming a physician. More than half the book, which is chronological, is devoted to her internship year. Dr Transue has fashioned her real-time impressions, recorded in jotted notes and e-mail messages, into 44 impressionistic chapters. The content ranges from the stresses of the call-schedule to the quirks of morning resident’s report.
