This second edition of Health and Welfare for Families in the 21st Century offers substantive revision and updates to the original, which was published in 1999.1 The overarching layout of the new edition is much the same as its predecessor, with units covering foundations, social welfare, health expenditures and health insurance, health issues, and policy issues. Many of the articles within these units are either new or revised. The book itself is a mixed bag, containing some excellent articles that will be useful for students or policy analysts, as well as others that are either too lightly revised from the 1999 edition, and thus not up-to-date, or are simply too short and under sourced to fully cover the subject at hand.
