Drug Importation Debate

Legislators in both houses of Congress have introduced bills to ease restrictions on prescription drugs imported from outside the United States.

“For too long, American consumers have been held captive in a market that forces them to pay significantly more for the same prescription drugs as our friends in Canada and Europe,” said Rep Gil Gutknecht (R, Minn), a cosponsor of one of the three new bills. “Opening pharmaceutical markets is an idea whose time has come . . . American consumers will save billions of dollars.”
