The US Preventive Services Task Force is now recommending that men between
the ages of 65 and 75 years who are or have been smokers receive a one-time
ultrasound screening for abdominal aortic aneurysms. The Task Force based
this advice on a report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s
Oregon Evidence-based Practice Center, in Portland, which examined the benefits
and harms of population-based abdominal aortic aneurysm screening (Fleming
et al. Ann Intern Med. 2005;142:203-211).
