In Reply: The letters by Drs Jay and Glatt were sent to President Bush and Senator Kerry for response, but to date no reply has been received. However, the points raised by these letters deserve comment.

First, I am surprised by Dr Jay’s certainty that “neither Senator Kerry nor President Bush actually wrote the articles or had even cursory involvement in the review process. . . . ” I would appreciate access to the bipartisan sources of information that stimulated this certainty, especially regarding the “cursory involvement in the review process.” I differ with Dr Jay on that point and agree much more with Dr Glatt’s opinion that “ghostwriters, silent authors, or unnamed coauthors” may have been involved, but I believe the candidates approved the content.
