AIDS in Asia

JAMA. 2005;293(15):1926-1927. doi:10.1001/jama.293.15.1926-b

AIDS in Asia, edited by Yichen Lu and Max Essex of Harvard University, tackles the HIV/AIDS epidemic with a broad agenda in a neglected part of the world. The editors include chapters on the epidemiology of HIV and AIDS in Asia and on broader topics that help to explain the dynamics of the epidemic.

The book has five sections, including the epidemiology of HIV in individual Asian countries, immunologic and molecular considerations, and prevention. The quality of the chapters and sections varies, as would be expected of any book with multiple authors from all over the world, but, overall, the book is a useful addition to the HIV/AIDS literature.
