Spinal Cord Network

JAMA. 2005;293(20):2463. doi:10.1001/jama.293.20.2463-b

A new report from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) states that the NIH and its National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke should develop a centralized network to lead and organize diverse spinal cord injury research across the country (http://www.iom.edu/report.asp?id=26196).

The report fulfills a request by the New York Spinal Cord Injury Trust that the IOM assess the current status of research on spinal cord injuries and recommend priorities and ways to accelerate progress. The committee that wrote the report suggested that a multifaceted approach to research on spinal cord injuries is necessary for clinical progress.
