For the first time since 1997, Congress has approved a budget resolution
that proposes cuts in federal funding for Medicaid.
The $2.56 trillion, nonbinding, budget proposal for fiscal year 2006
calls for reducing Medicaid growth over the next 5 years by $10 billion, somewhat
less than the $14 billion reduction (with a proposed $60 billion reduction
over 10 years) proposed by President Bush.
