Principles and Practice of Pediatric Surgery is actually the revised first edition of Surgery of Infants and Children, edited by Oldham et al, published in 1997. The new text substantially strengthens the first edition “with regard to its utility as a daily reference for those involved in the care of surgical problems in infants and children” while still emphasizing the “scientific principles and practice of pediatric surgery.” The editors are joined by 176 contributors who “are somewhat earlier in their careers than the norm for this type of endeavor, but who represent the present and future leaders in pediatric surgery.” The editors have maintained the balance and consistency in style and language of the first edition so that the transition from chapter to chapter is seamless.
