Hand surgery lies within three distinct specialties: orthopedics, plastic surgery, and general surgery. Despite tremendous advances in the past few decades, hand surgery continues to lack subspecialty certification in several countries around the world. Several well-known textbooks in orthopedics and plastic surgery have devoted volumes or sections to hand surgery. Green’s Operative Hand Surgery, a dedicated treatise, has remained for more than two decades the bible of hand surgery.
