Opening Shuttered Hospitals

JAMA. 2005;294(16):2016. doi:10.1001/jama.294.16.2016-b

A new report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality gives emergency responders and public health officials information to help them reopen shuttered hospitals after an emergency, such as a hurricane.

The material was developed to help officials prepare to respond to any natural or man-made disaster, and officials hope that the information will help medical staff in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, and surrounding states determine how to best choose and use a formerly closed hospital or health facility to care for patients in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
