This book describes current difficulties faced by academic health centers and discusses strategies for successfully addressing them. It is based on recommendations made by the Blue Ridge Academic Health Group, which is drawn from academia, the American Association of Healthcare Consultants, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the health care industry, and charitable foundations. The group aims at helping “academic health centers better meet the needs of society.” This volume updates the recommendations made in reports by this group from its inception in 1997 until 2001.
