Many textbooks are available to clinicians that address the science and the art of treating patients with pain, but none has been able to cover every facet of pain medicine. The editors of this, the seventh edition of Weiner's Pain Management: A Practical Guide for Clinicians set out to create a book that “ . . . intends to be the ‘first and last’ source for most clinicians needing to know something about pain management.”
The text is edited by two practicing pain specialists, Mark V. Boswell, MD, PhD, and B. Eliot Cole, MD, who have dedicated the text to the editor of the first six editions, the late Richard S. Weiner, PhD. Dr Weiner founded a national organization, the American Academy of Pain Management, more than a decade ago in efforts to meet the educational needs of pain practitioners from all disciplines, and the many editions of this text have been assembled by members of that organization.
