But I still say, in response to Dr Garfield, that the guy in red stockings on third base is more likely a runner than a coach. As far as whether the pitcher is completing a stretch or a windup, the matter is more murky: I was guessing a stretch, because if it had been a windup it seems that the runner on first base (again, a figure in red stockings) would already have been heading toward second. I agree that there is no way of knowing whether the second person in the on-deck circle is the next batter or a bat boy.
