The introduction to the sixth edition of Clinical Ethics: A Practical Approach to Ethical Decisions in Clinical Medicine informs the reader that “clinical ethics is a practical discipline” dealing with medical practice “embedded in a moral context.” The well-respected authors contend that clinical ethics can help resolve ethical disagreements in medical practice, and the growth of clinical ethics consultation certainly supports this contention. They intend their work for a broad audience, including students, clinicians, and any others who might serve on an institutional ethics committee, thus further enhancing the evolving discipline of clinical ethics.
