A Piece of My Mind Section Editor: Roxanne K. Young, Associate Editor.
It is 1:30 AM, 1½ years prior to completing my fellowship training, and my husband and I have just finished a long discussion about our future plans. This was not the first time, nor will it be the last, before we decide on whether to stay longer in the United States or go back home to our families who have been awaiting our return for the past eight years.
I realize as I am writing these words how common this must sound to any physician at my level of training. What is uncommon, and of great significance to me, is that my Arab husband would sit down to listen to his wife's opinion with the utmost respect and thoughtful consideration.
